3 Months & 1 Baby Dedication

Well this past Sunday, August 17, we dedicated our 4th child to our LORD at our home church. It was also the week we have officially had Rachel for 3 months (since 12 May!). It was a great time of family because we were visited by Grandpa Duncan and his new bride, Maggie who flew in from the coast. Nana & Paptoe drove in from the east. Grammy and Papa drove across town. They all joined us to celebrate Rachel's dedication. This is tradition in our Baptist faith, but it also our time to seriously ponder and remember that Rachel, like all children, is a gift from GOD. She is no accident, coincidence, or possession. She is a great heart bestowed upon us by a very great God whose love passes all human understanding. So, that said, this was a very special day in the life our Rachel and our family. Our church family was kind enough to let us show a short video called "Hidden Treasures" by Show Hope. Because God used the Chapman family to awaken our hearts and eyes to international adoption, we thought it fitting to show a snippet of their orphan ministry, Show Hope. We're posting it here, too. We give all praise and thanks to God on high who is indeed very real.

Next Pastor Ron and Miss Paulette presented us with two special items. One, Rachel's first Bible. Two, a letter for Rachel to open on the day she asks Jesus Christ in her heart. The very great thing here, too, is that this was also the Sunday that Noah chose to walk to the front and proclaim to others that he accepted Jesus in his heart! So we got to open Noah's letter that he was presented 10 years ago. Wow. You can't write stuff this good.

That is great! Our son in an orphanage in Haiti asked Jesus into his heart with the pastor there a few months ago.

My First "Gotcha" Day!

Gotcha Day is certainly a celebration for adoptive families. It's a tradition we chose to include in our family, ensuring to spend the day remembering our China journey as a family. We started our day taking big brothers and sister to school. Rachel and I then went to local photographer to have her "2-year-old" picture taken; figured it a good day every year to have her picture taken for both milestones. In her red polka dot dress, Rachel warmed up for a few smiles and had fun being the star of her own photo session. She's use to a lot of attention albeit she is not sure how to handle it all yet. After that we drove to downtown Dallas to check out The Crow Collection of Asian Art. It was a murky day with lots of low rain clouds and drizzle; exactly like it was this very day in Guanghzhou last year! Exactly. We parked and walked the streets of downtown, which really could have been any major city in the world at that point. The skyscrapers were masked with th...

"Cupcake" For DS

So today as I'm spending a few hours writing up our report for our 1-year post adoption appointment with our case worker, Rachel is off to the side "using her imagination". Such a proud Mommy I am. My little darling using that noggin to discover the next cure for the common cold, of course. So did I laugh out loud or what when Rachel started singing "Happy Birthday Mommy" and presented me with a special "cupcake". Yes, that is a half-eaten apple with a Nintendo DS stylus tucked in the top just like a candle. I've told my boys to keep their games out of reach...oops!
